My internet speed since I moved here in late August has been no more than 0.4Mbps. At worst it was 0.01Mbps 2 days ago. I am with TalkTalk and I believe I am on the Metheringham 6 cabinet. Should I really be paying a monthly fee for such atrocious speeds? Will I ever see an improvement on speed? It is starting to get very frustrating now!

Good Afternoon David,
The cabinet build has been delayed, but we are being told that an end of November completion looks most likely.

Steve

What speeds will I expect? I am paying TalkTalk for up to 17mbs which would be fine for my needs.

Good Morning David,
Difficult to say until we complete the work and BT will not commit until that point either.

Hi David, I'm sorry to say your current service won't get any better after the cabinet has been upgraded/supplied with fibre as you have to change service/package to benefit.
Like you, I'm on BT's equivalent up to 17mbps package, which uses ADSL2 from your home to the exchange (via a cabinet in your case). If you were with BT for example, you'd need to upgrade to one of three packages (complicated isn't it!?) BT Infinity 1, 2 or something called Faster Broadband (a product for those too far away to get 15mbps).
What differentiates these products is the maximum speed you can achieve, which in turn is determined by the length of your copper phone wire from your house to the cabinet.
BT Infinity 1 - up to 38mbps
BT Infinity 2 - up to 72mbps
BT Faster Broadband - up to 15mbps (to my knowledge this isn't offered by all providers)
If you are really unlucky and the distance of the copper line is multiple km, then you are very unlikely to see anything near those speeds and would be best off looking at 3G/4G dongles/routers (if you have reception).
For the record, I'm not affiliated with BT or Onlincs, just another Lincs resident in the slow lane.
I hope this was helpful.
Regards, Ben
